Don't let another Garage Sale shopper swoop in behind you and buy something you really love just because you're trying to get a better price by pretending that you don't want it!
GARAGE SALE SHOPPING TIP: Claim any Garage Sale items that you may want to buy before someone else does!
If you love it, pick it up and walk around with it. If it's too big, heavy or awkward to carry while you shop, or if you're considering several items, ask the host if you can make a pile. But keep an eye on your pile as you shop! Unscrupulous garage salers aren't above pilfering from another person's pile.
Don't Pretend Not to Like It
There are better ways to a get a better price than pretending you don't like something. For example, my favorite trick is to ask the seller, "Can I give you $5 for this?" while holding out a crisp $5 bill. The natural response to "can I give you X" is, yes. And the cash in hand is hard to resist.
