How to use price tag size to maximize Garage Sale profits
(Kristi Kirk Trent | CRAIGSLIST GARAGE SALES.COM)- Before you start slapping little round stickers on everything in a mad
rush to get it all priced in time for your garage sale, consider this: the right size price tags can potentially help you sell
more. It's true! Believe-it-or-not, with garage sale pricing, price tag size matters
almost as much as the prices you mark on them.

Studies show, in fact, that if customers are able to clearly see the price
of a product, they're more likely to buy it.
At first glance, that may read like a warning to watch your penmanship (which
couldn't hurt.) But what it actually tells us is we're more likely to sell
something when the price is stupid easy for customers to find — the easier, the
better.
In other words, the bigger the item, the bigger the price tag.
It's important because those little round 3/4 inch price stickers are only easy to see when they're on little things. On bigger things, a tag that small tends to get lost.
Better, right? The tag size is still somewhat small
compared to the size of the armoire, but at least customers who happen
to walk over and look at it won't have to work as hard to find the
price.
But what if your price tag was large enough to draw attention to the
piece on its own?
Bingo! No one's going to be dragging that baby back in the house
after the sale! An extra-large price tag not only catches your eye and draws you in, it doesn't let go. Thanks to
a half-sheet of card stock, finding the price of the armoire is now effortless.
If you think the price tag looks weird that big... good!
Another reason why super sized tags are so effective for garage
sale pricing is because they're not the norm. Anything
out-of-the-ordinary, off-balance or over-the-top can be very
jarring (like a friend nudging you in the ribs with her elbow.) It's a
tactic marketers often use to to wake shoppers up and refocus their
attention. And there's no reason why you can't use price tag size to do that, too.
Price Tag Size Matters in Garage Sale Pricing
The take away here for yard sale hosts is simple. When you use a tag that's proportionate in size to the garage sale item you're tagging, the price
is so easy to find that customers don't have to search for it, which
makes them more likely to buy it. It's one of many little yard sale
nuances that, added together, can have a big impact on the success of
your sale.
Here's some free, printable price tags and stickers to help you make
it happen:
1. Free Printable Hang Tags for Medium to Large Items
These hang tags allow plenty of room to write the price and a brief
description of your item. Just adding a simple detail like "true to
size" or "runs small" can actually bolster sales even further.
What info should you include on a large price tag?
If you find yourself at a loss for words, do what I do and think like
your customers. I like to anticipate a question customers might have
about an item and use the extra space on the price tag to answer it.
For example, I'll write "machine washable" on the tag of a dressy blouse
that looks like it could be dry clean only and "Legs are removable/fits
inside most cars" on a large table. "Instruction manual included" is a
good one for appliances and electronics.
Depending on the item, you may want to jot down dimensions or condition,
your reason for selling it, the original price you paid for it, care
instructions, a little old lady only drove it on Sundays...
