CRAIGSLIST: Sexy IKEA Table is a Real Stainless 'Steal' (+5 hacks!)

Sexy IKEA Table is a Real (Stainless) 'Steal' - Craigslist

"Really sexy... the sturdiness and texture of industrial with sexy curvy legs? What a find."
 Design Deals Daily
If the legs were straight it would be just another industrial-style stainless steel table for sale on Craigslist. They're not.

Update your space with this chic, industrial style dining table featuring sexy, powder-coated cabriole legs. Curved like an antique, but made from modern stainless steel, this table is perfect for blending traditional with a twist.

It's from IKEA, so the price is nominal ($139 retail) but it looks like industrial style designer furniture. It's so similar to a high-end industrial style Paris import, in fact, that Decorpad.com featured it in the magazine's "Look-4-Less" column. (above photo)

Personally? I prefer the IKEA version!

Why Choose Stainless Steel Furniture?

After years of use in commercial kitchens as the preferred work surface for food safety and sanitation, stainless steel furniture has also become popular for home use. The smooth, metal finish not only resists corrosion and stains, it also inhibits the growth of bacteria, reducing the risk of food-borne illnesses. But it's the beauty of the metal that makes stainless steel tables like IKEA's VIKA Hyttan / VIKA Fintorp ideal for use in entryways, living rooms, game rooms and other areas of your home as a stand-alone piece or for displaying collectibles.

If you're worried that stainless steel is on the way out or won't blend with your decor  don't be. Ralph Lauren, Oprah Winfrey, Gwyneth Paltrow, Alec Baldwin, Courtney Cox, Michael J. Fox, Johnny Depp and Adam Levine are among many notable celebrities with stainless steel in their kitchens. Stainless steel is actually one of the most versatile decorating materials around because the metal reflects surrounding colors and patterns. Not only that but 'mixed metals' is a hot new interior design trend.

"Platinum, gold, copper, steel — as long as they've got metallic sheen, they go together in our book. It's bling like you've never seen before."

Incorporating this sexy Craigslist stainless steel table into your decor is as easy as pairing it with your favorite style of chair. Pull up a stainless steel bar stool and use it in the kitchen for food prep to bring out your inner chef, or surround it with Mid-Century Eames-style chairs to make it a modern kitchen table for everyday meals. Pair it with bench seating in a cozy breakfast nook, or dress it up with high-back upholstered chairs for a formal dining room.

TIP: If you have a lot of stainless steel appliances
or furniture and cool neutral colors in your kitchen or dining room, add some red to take the chill out.

This IKEA favorite also works great as a desk. I love that it shows a softer side of steel and office furniture.

Then again, who says you have to use it  "as is?" — or even use the entire thing, for that matter?!

IKEA's VIKA Hyttan tabletop is a sheet of stainless steel wrapped around a sturdy wood frame that you can drill into and cut easily. This makes it a fun and easy piece of  IKEA furniture to hack.

IKEA HACKING: To customize, personalize, camouflage, repurpose, or otherwise embellish or modify IKEA brand furniture.

For example, you can switch out the VIKA Fintorp legs with a shorter set and... SNAP! You have a stainless steel coffee table hack.

Paint the Hyttan tabletop glossy white and hack it in half (pun intended) to create a slim, feminine console table that's ideal for a petite bathroom or entryway.

Here's a screenshot of the actual Craigslist listing for the IKEA stainless steel table:

The ad reads:

"Stainless Steel Kitchen Table - $60 (Oklahoma City)

Really cool stainless steel table in good used condition. (Tabletop is scratched a bit, but no major dents, dings or damage.) It's our kitchen table currently, but it's also great for preparing food. Seats six comfortably. We're downsizing and there's just not enough room for it at our new place. If you love to cook, this is your table. Will deliver if it's not too far and you pay for the gas. Asking $60 OBO. Cash only. Please email or text."
Compared to the price of similar metal tables for sale on Amazon and eBay, this Craigslist IKEA table is a real 'steal' for $60. However, considering these tables retailed new for $139, I think an offer of  $45 is more than fair.

Also worth considering are a number of reviews I found online complaining that the VIKA Hyttan tabletop scratches too easily. Quite a few recommend investing in a quarter-inch thick glass table top cover to protect the stainless steel surface. While an equal number claim that scratches are easily buffed out or blend in over time creating a beautiful patina. (I'll leave that judgment call to you.)

TIP: Despite its name, stainless steel is not 100% stainless.
Avoid cleaning the VIKA Hyttan / VIKA Fintorp table with bleach or other cleansers containing hydrochloric acid as it can stain and damage the surface.

If you wish to buy the IKEA VIKA Hyttan / VIKA Fintorp stainless steel table, or if you have any questions, please contact the seller directly via the original Craigslist listing at OKC.CRAIGSLIST.ORG
