HOW TO PRICE GOODS

Tag everything with an easy-to-read price.
Price items at roughly 10% of what they sell for for new, or consult an online garage sale pricing guide.
Offer deals for higher quantities of similar items: $.50 cents each or 3 for $1.00.
Make larger price tags for larger items.
Use easy to add prices: $.25, $.50, $1.00 etc.
If you don't want to negotiate, write "firm" on the tag.
Slash prices half way through the last day to clear out inventory.
At multi-family yard sales, use a different color tag for each family to make accounting easier.

MAKE CHANGE

Start with $50 and change it to: one $10 bill; four $5 dollar bills; $15 $1 bills and twenty quarters.

MERCHANDISE YOUR GOODS

Use these tactics to encourage customers to buy.

Clothing

Hang clothes on racks
Display stylish outfits together
Give away hangers with purchase
Price adult clothes low since people can't try them on.

Display

Put items on tables, racks and shelves for easy viewing
Group similar items together
Prominently display items appealing to every demographic: men, women and children
Consider displaying only a portion of your items at first, and bring out more as they sell. (People are overwhelmed by too many choices,)
Make descriptive signs for unique objects, i.e. "Vintage 1963 alarm clock. Works great."

Ambiance:

Play upbeat background music.

Electronics:

Provide batteries and an outlet or extension cord for testing.
