Typically, the best date to host a garage sale is on the first or second weekend of the month that falls close to payday. That's when people generally have more expendable income to shop.
Most employers pay either once-a-month on the 1st or twice-a-month on the 1st and 15th. When payday falls on a weekend, employers usually issue checks on Friday.
Of course, money goes fast, so pick a weekend that falls within a few days of people collecting their paychecks.
What's the Best Day to host a Garage Sale?
The best day of the week to host a garage sale depends on where you live. Every community has a day of the week that's traditionally the most popular garage sale day, but it varies in different parts of the country. It could be Thursday, Friday, Saturday or even Sunday. In Oklahoma, where I live, Saturday is by far the best day to have a garage sale. In California, Friday is more popular.
If you're not sure what day is best where you live, ask your friends and check your local classifieds to see which day is most popular.
You may be tempted to host your garage sale on an "off day" when there's not as much competition, but that will only reduce the number of visitors to your sale, which usually results in fewer sales.
If you want to increase the number shoppers who visit your sale, up your advertising game and host a two-day garage sale.
